A Night of Stars: Boston Ballet on Boston Common

Boston Ballet is starting their season al fresco on Boston Common on Saturday, September 21st.  Summer might be the season of outdoor performances but really there’s nothing better than snuggling up on and in a blanket on the common to be led away on a journey of beauty, grace, and storytelling.  This is Boston Ballet’s first performance on Boston Common and the entire company will be performing accompanied by the Boston Ballet Orchestra.

The program for Night of Stars goes from classics such as excerpts from Don Quixote to contemporary classics including George Balanchine’s Serenade and Jorma Elo’s Plan to B.

In addition, Christopher Bruce’s Rooster will be performed as well as a special surprise world premiere piece.

The performance begins at 7:00 p.m. but I recommend getting there early for a picnic so you can have a wonderful evening out.   Come prepared with a blanket, some snacks if you have little ones, some bug spray just in case, and plenty of blankets and sweaters.  If there is rain forecast then the Night of Stars will be held on Sunday, September 22nd.

If you can take the T that’s probably the best way to get there, but there is also a parking garage under Boston Common if the thought of trekking home with tired children after the performance does not sound appealing.

Stage is located on Boston Common at the corner of Beacon & Charles Streets
