We survived the first week back to school. Take the edge off by making some weekend plans that will have you feeling fancy free, laughing, connecting and just having a good time.
Boston Ballet’s Genius at Play opened last night and it is a playful, colourful, refreshing program. This is a first for Boston Ballet as it is an all Jerome Robbins performance. Boston Ballet introduces some of its newest company members this season and you have to work hard to spot them as they are a perfect match and dance as if they’ve been a part of the company for years. Genius at Play runs through September 16th
Friday, September 7th 5:30 – Dusk (movie starts)
In Cambridge, stop by Raymond Park for live music with the Flip Flops. Bring a picnic and make an evening of it. No time to pack a picnic? Don’t worry. There will be food trucks and a movie night tonight as well, so just show up with some lawn chairs and blankets.
Saturday, September 8th 12:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Assembly Row, Somerville is a great spot to shop for back to school clothes from soccer cleats to boho chic. The best part about Saturday, is that you can sneak the shopping in while you and the family enjoy Riverfest. In addition to the festivities, don’t miss The Smoke Shop BBQ hosting a Family Cookout at Assembly Line Park from 12-4pm with a special $5 kid’s menu, bounce house and other family friendly activities including a trackless train! Stop by American Fresh Beer Garden from 12-4 pm for a freshly dipped caramel apple! $3 each. Watch the beer garden staff dip your apple right in front of you! Proceeds will go to benefit Respond, Inc. Representatives from Respond, Inc. will be on hand with helpful information for our community.

Saturday, September 8th 11:00 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Belmont is quietly becoming a bit more hip and has a lot more going on these days. This is Belmont’s first ever porchfest, and there are plenty of porches to be filled with music. With everything from an Oktoberfest Brass Quartet to the Psychedelic Diaper Viperz. The Psychedelic Diaper Viperz are a 4 piece band with guitar, bass, drums and Ukulele composed of three 12 year olds and one 10 year old who will be rocking some classics. I’m a little afraid to find out what are considered classics by the 10-12 year old set.
Saturday, September 8th 4:00 – 10:00
Boston Night Market is the place to try a little bit of everything. There will be some of my favourite restaurants and food trucks as well as some I have never even heard of until now. Reading about night markets in books and seeing them on tv around the world has had me craving a trip across the world, but for now, I’m psyched that we are starting one of our own right here in Boston. In addition to tasty treats there will be Kan Jam, ping pong, corn hole, life music and more.

Saturday, September 8th & Sunday September 9th

Baked! at the Central Flea is a Baker’s Confectionary Festival that you will not want to miss if you have a sweet tooth. You can trade being baked by the sun for some delicious baked goods this Sunday since the weather will be just right for pastry chefs of all types to share their treats with you.
