If Swan Lake was a Tik Tok it would definitely go viral. Thanks to the pandemic, it has been a while since I have seen Swan Lake and I started to wonder why Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s ballet was considered #iconic. Join Boston Ballet to see Swan Lake from now through June 5th at the Citizen’s Bank Opera House. I was invited to review Swan Lake, and as always all opinions are my own.
The featured swans #duet. In a few dramatic moments Odette appears and catches Odile’s attention as they swan dance together Tik Tok duet style. Then of course the is the famous Swan Lake quartet with the four little swans.
One thing I love most about the larger story ballets are all the festive dance parties. Swan Lake has plenty of dance parties and you know you’ve learned all your latest dance moves from social media lately. There is something about a group of people all doing the save movement together that just brings the room together or in the case of social media the whole world together.
While I mostly like the inspiring quotes and the every day comedians, I can’t pretend to not be in awe of the talent out there from small midwest towns to the middle of Manhattan. Showing off is something that Swan Lake does too. There are high jumps and turns as well as the famous 32 fouettés turns on pointe.
Some memories fade over time, but deep down you always remember what young love is like. Tik Tok is full of that sparkly-eyed young love and so is Swan Lake whether its couples dancing in the courtyard or the couples performing National dances.
Dad jokes and mom memes are all over Tik Tok and they have us groaning and rofl. Swan Lake has its own nagging mother who is pushing Siegfried to get a move on and get married already.
No matter what you seek whether its a lol moment or a little meditation Tik Tok has a #mood to match what you need. Swan Lake also has so many #moods including my all time favourite misty lake moment that has the audience gasping in amazement as the swans emerge from the fog. There are #partymoods #puppylovemoods #moodymoods and more. Swan Lake takes you on a journey through all the emotions.
