Lauren Spencer Smith’s return to Boston leveled up in so many ways. She sold out House of Blues. The Fenway music venue was filled to the brim with devoted fans for good reason. When Spencer Smith last performed in Boston she would have had a big old Sharpie x on her hand had she been at The Paradise as a fan. This time, she was not only old enough for a wristband, but she had a newfound wisdom and sense of self that was contagious. The age range of fans who could sing/shout/harmonize from the crowds spanned a good two decades. It takes an honest, talented person and artist to connect so deeply with so many people.

Lauren Spencer Smith Taps Into It All
While many of Lauren Spencer Smith’s songs process the multitude of ways we can be hurt or wronged, somehow she has a twinkle in her eye, a beaming beautiful smile punctuated by a dimple, and the crowd along for the ride. While we sang together about hurt and anger, the crowd somehow leaves uplifted and feeling more alive than ever. There is power in Lauren Spencer Smith’s voice not only melodically but in her approach to situations, overcoming them and putting people in their place.
So if you’re feeling crazy, I wouldn’t be surprised
The only thing they’re good at is knowing how to gaslight
Then make you feel like you’re the most beautiful in the world
While they’re sleeping with another girlOoh-ooh
And after six months, you’ll feel really stupid
Ooh-ooh
I promise that it’s not your fault you fell for itNarcissist, Lauren Spencer Smith
From boys who were utter trash to losing the friendship of a best friend, Lauren Spencer Smith sings about it all. She is a story teller, a therapist, and a rising tide that brings all her fans along for the ride.

On Stage She Is All Art No Mess
Lauren Spencer Smith is a performer who knows how to both connect with her fans and have fun with the crowd. The “box of secrets” has been a wild and crazy part of The Art of Being a Mess tour. Fans write down secrets that go into a shoe box. Part way through the show, audience members choose a note from the box to read aloud to the room. Lauren Spencer Smith was careful to ask if the chosen reader each time was over 21. Boston heard about someone who is married but has fallen in love with their co-worker, among several others. Some of the clips can be found on Tik Tok or Instagram from secrets along the tour if you need your fix of “real life reality tv”. Lauren Spencer Smith also brought out the “Wheel of Feels!!” a spinning wheel divided into sections representing different songs for her to cover. An audience member was plucked out of the crowd to spin the wheel and help choose the song.

On the Boston setlist you’ll find everything from the song that was belted out by everyone in the room, which was Narcissist to flowers and parallel universe. The young person chosen from the crowd to spin the “Wheel of Feels!!” really wanted the cover to be Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever and Spencer Smith made sure that the wheel landed just there.

Lyrics to Linger Over
I’ve been holdin’ my stomach in for so long
Don’t even notice I’m doin’ it anymore
I work out hard, seven days a week
But I don’t feel any differentlyI wonder if I’ll ever change
I don’t think I can live this wayI wake up hatin’ my body
Scared that there’s nothing that’ll make it better
If I’m not happy and skinny, quiet and pretty
Do I even matter?small, Lauren Spencer Smith 2024

Don’t say you love me just because
I’m somebody that you’re supposed to love
Don’t say you’re sorry just because
You think the words alonе would be enough
‘Cause I want you to carе
And not because you have to
I wish that you’d be there
And I would never have to ask you
But it feels like I’ll never be more than just
Somebody that you’re supposed to lovesomebody you’re supposed to love, Lauren Spencer Smith 2025
