By Leah Klein March 27, 2014 November 19, 2017 6

You walk into Sunday brunch at Puritan & Co. and the room is buzzing with energy.  Once you settle in though, time seems to slow.  You can get lost in conversation, linger over a few last crumbs on your plate left from a delicious pastry, or sip a second cocktail …

Commonwealth Restaurant Cambridge: Marky Mark and the Funky Brunch

By Leah Klein March 10, 2014 November 19, 2017 4

I’ve been waiting to visit Chef Nookie Postal’s Commonwealth for a while now, but our schedules kept getting in the way. Finally, this Sunday was the day. Our first order of business were the $1 oysters which are served from 11:00 am to 7 pm on Sundays. I love the …

Valentine 's Day Fun: Giant Cookie (Recipe)

By February 4, 2014 February 4, 2014 0

This September, my son asked for a giant cookie ( here is the recipe link)to bring in for his school birthday party. The kids had fun modifying it for Valentine’s Day. To make a love struck heart, we used Strawberry Kit Kat from Japan that we bought at the Japonaise …

Field Trip: Seven Stars Bakery- Providence, Rhode Island

By February 3, 2014 February 3, 2014 0

I buy Seven Stars Bakery breads at my local Whole Foods (Fresh Pond, Cambridge).  I love their durham stick.  So, when my husband had a cyclocross race near the Franklin Park Zoo in Rhode Island, we just had to stop at the real bakery on the way home. I warmed …

PIN: Pencil it in this week(end)

PIN: Pencil it in this week(end)

By December 10, 2013 December 10, 2013 0

Tis the season of excess, from spending to indulging, but my favourite kind of excess is overloading the calendar with so many wonderful holiday, community, seasonal events.  It is fun if you don’t try to have your cake and eat it too.  Choose the ones you want to go to …

Join the Club: The Gifts that Give and Give and Give

By December 6, 2013 December 6, 2013 1

Once upon a time there were “gift of the month” clubs.  They were expensive, unique, somewhat personal, but the food itself was nothing to write home about.  It was more about the novelty of a monthly gift, and beautiful packaging.  We’ve come a long way from the original “gourmet” gift …

it’s a peameal bacon kind if morning. it’s a peameal bacon kind if morning.
This is linger over a glass of wine kind of weathe This is linger over a glass of wine kind of weather. Dan and I had a fab time doing just that last night at Spoke Wine Bar. Now I’m craving all the things: the cranberry fresno glazy saucy thing on the fried parsnip cake, the hint of bergamot in the aioli with the quince glazed sausage skewers, the fresh scallop crudo paired with rich AF beef cheeks, the somehow buttery soy sauce in the clams with persimmon, and the creamy tagine bean dip. I could go back again tonight and have it all again- and so much more of the menu that we didn’t try because we kept this meal dairy free for Dan.
