A Part of Something: Me Too

We are all a part of something larger than ourselves. Some things we work hard to become of a part of. Other groups we were born into. Some of our shared identities are a blessing and others a burden put on us.

Recently, on Facebook women are sharing their statements of ‘me too’ to show how many women have been sexually harassed or assaulted.

I can’t imagine that any woman has not and I’m not being dramatic or trying to make a point. It is something that crosses all races, classes, cultures, and borders.

It took me a while before I devided to write in my own ‘me too’ because although I understand the reason for doing this ‘social experiment’, it got me thinking about all the ‘me too’s of life. I think first of the multitude of ‘me too’s that being black in America must have. I think then of the multitude of ‘me too’s that being poor in America must have. I think of the multitude of ‘me too’s that people face and we ignore on a regular basis and I feel anger and frustration.

Where do we go from here? Are

we making progress or are we spinning our wheels?
